The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is preparing a report on good practices by States, local and regional governments, and other stakeholders in the promotion and protection of human rights at the local level. OHCHR has launched a call for written contributions and we cordially invite you to participate.
In this context, the Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG-CSIPDHR) and OHCHR are co-organizing an online consultation aimed at mayors, local and regional governments, and civil society organizations, with the aim of gathering direct input on:
-
The local implementation of human rights
-
Current challenges for local governments in this area
-
Practices related to public procurement, economic, social and cultural rights
-
The participation of cities in international human rights mechanisms
Date: 1 July 2025
Time: 15:00 to 17:00 (CEST)
Language: English, with written interpretation available via Wordly

We strongly encourage you to join this international dialogue! This consultation will not only highlight local efforts and challenges in the defense of human rights, but will also feed into the preparatory work for the joint OHCHR-UCLG meeting “Local governments for human rights,” which will take place on 22 July 2025 in Geneva.
This space and consultation are part of the Committee's work to position local and regional governments as key actors in the promotion of human rights. These projects include the Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030” and the development of a Guidance Framework for Building a Human Rights City, in collaboration with OHCHR.
You can also contribute to the OHCHR report by sending written contributions before 15 July 2025, to: [email protected]
