He calls for the respect of human rights and solidarity between cities and territories as the best weapon to fight fear and violence.
(Open letter from the Co-President of the Committee, Patrick Braouezec, to the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau)
Mrs. Ada Colau, Mayor of Barcelona, Dear Ada,
I send you with this message all the support of the elected officials and the inhabitants of Plaine Commune in this terrible time that the city of Barcelona is going through since yesterday. Our thoughts go to the also affected inhabitants of Cambrils as well. The old ties of friendship that our territory has created with your city, as well as the memory of the attacks of November 2015 in the heart of the city of Saint Denis, give a special resonance to the drama that is now touching Barcelona. I sincerely believe that the international dialogue that our territories lead together in the framework of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) in favour of social inclusion and human rights is one of the necessary answers to this spiral of violence, key to build a more solidary world.
With all my friendship,
Patrick Braouezec, President of Plaine Commune
