Since the 1985 General Assembly of the United Nations, World Habitat Day has been celebrated every first Monday of October, with the main aim of reflecting on the state of human settlements and the basic right to adequate shelter for all.
This year it will fall on Monday 6 October and the central theme will be ‘Voices from Slums’, the aim being to highlight lifestyles in the poorest districts of cities and giving voice to their residents in order to improve the quality of their living conditions. In addition, it offers the chance for towns around the world to hold activities related to the main topic and register them on their websites.
