The World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders - 3rd UCLG World Congress was held in Mexico D.F from 17 to 20 November. More than 2,000 local governments from 114 countries participated in the event. During three days, 3 plenary sessions, 10 parallel sessions and dozens of meetings took place.
The city also hosted the meeting of UCLG Executive Bureau, as well as the meetings of the organisation´s Assembly and its World Council, where the new President of UCLG was elected: the Mayor of Istanbul (Turkey), Mr. Kadir Topbas. Five more mayors will make up the Co-Presidency for the period 2011 - 2013: the Mayor of Lisbon (Portugal), Mr Antonio Costa; the Mayor of San José (Costa Rica), Mr. Johnny Araya; the Mayor of Guangzhou (China), Mr. Wan Qingliang; the Mayor of Harare (Zimbabwe), Mr. Muchadeyi Masunda; and the Mayor of Kazan (Russia), Mr. Ilsur Metsin.
