Next October will be the culmination of the many efforts that our Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights has invested in international processes. On October 12-15, the 5th UCLG Congress will take place in Bogota, just before, the UN Conference on sustainable urban development and housing – Habitat III to take place from 17 de 20 in Quito.
For almost two years ago, the Committee –through the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments and the Global Platform for the Right to the City- has invested large-scale work to see the inclusion of the Right to the City in the “New Urban Agenda” that will result from Habitat III. Challenge achieved! Indeed, the Habitat III Agenda makes reference to the Right to the City, but many efforts are still necessary to include it in the local realities and to review its implementation with concrete follow-up measures.
Hence, the Committee invites its members to participate in its wide variety of activities to take place in the framework of the UCLG Congress, the 2nd World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments and the Habitat III Conference.
