The Habitat International Coalition’s Housing and Land Rights Network announces the convening of the fourth Land Forum in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region. Every edition of the Land Forum series brings together activists, scholars, NGOs and community leaders to explore cases, present land struggles and exchange experiences that set the research and advocacy agenda for the MENA region.
This year’s Land Forum will take place alongside the events of the World Social Forum, in Tunis, Tunisia, during the week of 24 March 2013. In order to build on the progress made in the previous Land Forums, as well as allow crossover with the events in the WSF, the major themes to be discussed in the Land Forum, we ask that presentations and papers for the Forum address the human rights dimensions of land and natural resources in the MENA region any of the following topics:
- Land, revolution & transitional justice
- Land and globalization/economics
- Land in conflict/occupation
- Land law and policy reform
- Property rights/land tenure
- Land & the right to the city
- Gender aspects of land
- The right to water
The papers presented will determine the final program of the Land Forum. This round of the Land Forum will include a session for researchers to develop a common methodology for country assessments to be carried out after the forum.
Please send your proposal to participate in the MENA Land Forum by submitting—by 31 January 2013—an abstract of your paper/presentation (1 page or less) to Rabie Wahba ([email protected]). Please also let us know then whether or not you need support for travel to Tunis for the Land Forum.
We look forward your proposal and participation at this fourth Land Forum. The HLRN team is available for any assistance or questions you may have regarding presentations or the Land Forum. The dates and logistical arrangements for the Forum will be finalized by the end of January.
