We are pleased to announce that the 18th International Conference of the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (IOPD) will be held in Barcelona on 25, 26 and 27 November.
Each year, a local government member of the IOPD calls the International Conference to discuss, share experiences and reflect on the state of participatory democracy at local level. We are pleased to announce that for this edition, in addition to Barcelona City Council, UCLG will also collaborate in the organization of the event.
Over three days, experts in the field of participation and political leaders will share their knowledge and expertise to promote the role of cities in strengthening democracy worldwide. This is also an opportunity to promote cooperation among cities and international organizations in the field of democratic innovation.
This year the thematic axes of debate will be direct democracy, citizen initiatives and ecosystems of inclusive participation. Moreover, it is an opportunity to reflect on how cities are developing the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) involving citizens in the planning, design and implementation of city policies.
Some cities have started to organize preparatory activities on the topics that will be discussed in the Conference. Please send an email to [email protected] with your proposal.
You can also collaborate by proposing content for the conference (speakers, topics, etc.) by filling in this form. Please note that the deadline for proposals is 30 June.
Registration for the conference will open on 2 July.
