"Financing the Right to the City for all" Declaration

Being satisfied that the issue of wealth distribution through taxation and the public and citizen control of the land and housing market are necessary to ensure the right to the city, the UCLG Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights –in the name of the Global Platform for the Right to the City and in the framework of the Habitat III Conference on Financing Urban Development (Mexico)– adopted the alternative declaration “Financing the Right to the City for all”.

This text, written along with the Mexico City Secretariat for Social Development (Direction for Social Development), has also been signed by the Forum of Peripheral Local Authorities Network (FALP) and ENDA-ECOPOP (NGO). It was adopted at the end of the side event Local Governments’ Social Spending: Urban Justice & Equity”, co-organized along with the Secretariat for Social Development and the General Coordination for International Affairs of the Mexico City Government.
