The World Forum of Cities and Territories of Peace will be held on June 27 and 28, 2023 in Bogota, under the theme "Citizenship for a sustainable peace based on care." Mayors, international community, activists, academia and citizens will come together to put the need to care for our communities and create multicultural environments of peace at the center of the political agenda.
This fourth edition aims to consolidate the Forum as a scenario for dialogue and exchange of knowledge and experiences on violence prevention and sustainable peace building. In this sense, networking and exchange of experiences will be deployed around five thematic areas: territorial peace, environmental peace; women, peace and security; transition towards citizenship of peace; and a new social contract for citizenship.
United Cities and Local Governments is the permanent secretariat of the Forum. The Commission on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights will lead the call to promote a security approach from a human rights perspective. The Forum will be the starting point and the occasion to mark a milestone in this path that the Commission will continue.
The first edition of the Forum took place in Madrid in 2017, where the Right to the City based on a Human Rights and sustainability approach was recognized. The second edition in 2018 convened in the same city, where the fundamental role of citizen participation in peace building was addressed. Finally, the last edition was held in Mexico City in 2021, with a gender perspective to recognize inequalities within communities.
