VISION AS HUMAN RIGHTS CITY / TERRITORY

Why are human rights beneficial to our community?

They are fundamental rights, and the degree to which rights are won marks the degree of democracy in a community. Respect for human rights is one of the key elements in anti-discrimination policies.

What role should local and regional governments have for promoting, fulfilling, and respecting human rights?

Local governments have the role of promoting and enhancing human rights and their indispensability to lead a life of dignity. And the work carried out points to the possibility of giving a voice to every citizen who forms the community.

MOTIVATIONS TO JOIN THE CAMPAIGN

To testify to a commitment to improving the living conditions of the city's community residents and to manifest a willingness to define new modes of public action that enshrine the role of local governments in building inclusive, resilient and peaceful societies and in recognizing the needs of specific groups (children, women, the elderly, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities).

HUMAN RIGHTS LOCAL POLICIES, MECHANISMS AND PROGRAMS

The City of Parma organizes, every year, events (performances, shows, theatricalized readings) in city locations (squares, arcades in the city's neighborhoods) to highlight human rights: those still denied, those already achieved but now under threat, and those yet to be secured.

The Municipality of Parma has been a member of the National Network of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights since 2018, and takes part each year — with a political delegation — in the Perugia-Assisi March.
