VISION AS HUMAN RIGHTS CITY / TERRITORY

Local governments are essential to ensuring the effectiveness of human rights because, being closer to the citizens, they have a direct role in implementing public policies that affect people’s daily lives. Their proximity to the community allows them to better understand the needs and vulnerabilities of individuals, facilitating responses to human rights violations and promoting more equitable and sustainable social development.

Human rights are fundamental values and an essential normative framework to guide local action because they provide universal principles of dignity, freedom, and equality that must be at the heart of all public policies and governmental actions. At the local level, human rights serve as a key reference to ensure that governments act fairly, equitably, and respectfully towards diversity.

From the Municipality of Morón, our main objective is to design, implement, and evaluate public policies on gender and diversity from a comprehensive perspective within the framework of human rights, with a cross-cutting approach throughout all areas of government.

Additionally, we promote interculturalism in our territory by advancing local policies to prevent hate, racism, discrimination, and xenophobia, ensuring the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

MOTIVATIONS TO JOIN THE CAMPAIGN

We are enthusiastic about participating in this campaign as the promotion and defense of human rights are central to our municipal administration. We are committed to protecting the fundamental rights of all citizens, promoting an environment of justice and equity for all groups in the community, and improving the living conditions of citizens in pursuit of a more prosperous society.

We are constantly working to continue improving the implementation of public policies that are more inclusive, fair, and respectful of everyone's rights, as well as improving access to basic services such as education, health, housing, employment, and justice for the most vulnerable groups, ensuring that these rights are protected.

HUMAN RIGHTS LOCAL POLICIES, MECHANISMS AND PROGRAMS

  1. "Mansión Seré" Space, and House for Memory and Life: Between 1977 and 1978, the Mansión Seré became one of the most important Clandestine Detention Centers in the western area under the responsibility of the Argentine Air Force. In 2000, on the same site, the House for Memory and Life was inaugurated, in response to the need to create a space for collective remembrance of recent history and a space for participation, dialogue, and reflection on Human Rights. In 2015, the Quinta Seré premises were declared a National Historic Site.

  2. In 2015, the Memory Space for Indigenous Peoples (Espacio de Memoria de los Pueblos Originarios) emerged, an open and collective space formed by teachers, workers, communicators, and Indigenous brothers and sisters, aimed at raising awareness and valuing the cultures of Indigenous peoples. Each year, ceremonies, talks, debates, conferences, workshops, and various celebrations linked to the ancestral agricultural calendar and the current issues of our peoples are held. EMPO is a collective and diverse construction, a space to reconnect with roots, a place that allows the creation of awareness and a concrete form of historical reparation.

  3. Within the framework of the House for Memory and Life, a space was created for the preservation and consultation of bibliographic materials: "Centro Documental 30000 motivos". Open access is offered to the community with a library, newspaper and magazine archive, and video library on human rights topics. There is also a documentary archive area (written, audiovisual, and photographic materials) that particularly addresses the last civil-military dictatorship in the western area and national and regional references.
