The closeness of local administrations to the territories where they are embedded makes the defense and promotion of human rights a key pillar in their daily work when implementing public policies within their communities.
For our administration in the Municipality of Macul, it is essential to recognize and firmly address this responsibility, which, in today's times, must coexist with and be embedded in all public initiatives. Over the years, we have focused on affirming our commitment to promoting respect, inclusion, and the rights of people with disabilities, migrants, children, and women, among others.
An example of this is the creation of the Department of Inclusion and Human Rights, with programs on Indigenous Peoples, Sexual Diversities, and Sex-Gender Dissidence; launch of the program "Protecting Your Rights", a service aimed at informing and facilitating access to justice for people with disabilities, carried out through guidance, counseling, and support on legal rights and social benefits, among other legal matters. All of this is part of a collaborative effort with other public and private organizations to enable comprehensive progress in these initiatives.
Another fundamental aspect is memory. In this regard, our municipality signed an agreement with the executive director of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights to strengthen the promotion of education and reflection on human rights. This agreement aims to establish mutual collaboration to enhance the purposes and missions of both institutions.
It is of vital importance for our administration to continue following these work guidelines and to foster more and better initiatives through robust public policies that allow us to build communities that embrace and understand the importance of the unconditional respect among human beings, regardless of individual circumstances.
