Following a long-standing history of collaboration with the UCLG Committee of Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights, the GPR2C is excited and committed to join this campaign through the belief that the local level presents great potential for advancing a right-based transformative agenda through the alliance of civil society and local and regional governments. With the Charter Agenda for Human Rights in the City as a precedent, the potential of such a scale of action for the fulfillment and deepening of Human Rights commitments and obligations is becoming more and more clear.
In articulation with the conceptual, legal and strategic discussions around and about the Right to the City, such an alliance can be deeply transformative, building upon the leadership of civil society organizations and local and regional governments in shaping practices that localize and territorialize human rights through practice and policies, with a special focus on the interconnection and complementarity of human rights.
