Next Wednesday, November 30th 2016 the more than 480 member cities of the International Association of Educating Cities (IAEC) will celebrate the first edition of the International Day of the Educating City, in favour of cities educating in an inclusive manner, providing quality education throughout life.
Through the International Day of the Educating City, IAEC aims at inspiring more local leaders, NGOs, universities, experts and citizenship to get involved in the construction of cities which offer opportunities for a personal and collective development by an inclusive quality education for all and throughout life (Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda), as said in the Manifesto of the Mayors of Educating Cities.
More than 100 Mayors from 16 countries from all around the world have made public its commitment to Education. You will find here the messages from local authorities of such diverse cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Adelaide, Bethlehem, Helsinki, Changwon, Sao Paulo, Brussels, Geneva, Rennes, Buenos Aires, Rosario or Praia. IAEC, local governments committed to social change
Founded in 1994, the International Association of Educating Cities (IAEC) is a non-profit organisation, constituted as a permanent collaborative structure uniting local governments committed to the Charter of Educating Cities, which is the road map of the cities that comprise it. Any local government that accepts this commitment can become an active member of the Association, regardless of its administrative powers. The Educating Cities, convinced that cities are source and framework of education, work on the creation a great network of educating agents so as to promote an education as a political tool for social transformation in favour of fairer, inclusive and solidary cities.
