The city of Johannesburg (South-Africa), along with UCLG Africa (UCLG-A) hosts, from November 29th to December 3rd, the 7th Africities Summit, which gathers cities and communities from the whole continent. The central topic to be covered is: “Shaping the future of Africa with the people: the contribution of African local authorities to Agenda 2063 of the African Union”. The Right to the City and the way towards Habitat III will be especially present two specific events: “Inhabitants Associations and Local Authorities towards Quito” (International Alliance of Inhabitants) and “The representation of cities on the definition of the New Urban Agenda”. In addition, on the occasion of this summit, the Global Platform for the Right to the City will organize an African regional meeting, on November 28th in the Schooll of Architecture of Johannesburg.
Africites will aim to localize the Agenda 2063 of the African Union
Agenda 2063 of the African Union is, at the same time, a vision and an action plan, which aims to draft an horizon of prosperity for the continent and translate it into concrete goals, milestones and action that enable to identify and to take profit of strategic opportunities in order to ensure an actual socioeconomic transformation of Africa during the next 50 years. In this sense, the 7th Africities Summit aims to connect this Agenda to a strategic and rigorous debate on what needs to be done at local level –especially regarding service delivering, economic opportunities, social inclusion and urban development.
The Righ to the City will be present in this framework through some activities:
a. “Inhabitants Associations and Local Authorities towards Quito”, organized by the International Alliance of Inhabitants (IAH), on the regional contribution that can be made from Africa to the World Urban Social Forum and Habitat III (Quito, October 2016).

b. “The representation of African cities to the definition of the New World Urban Agenda”, within the framework of Participatory Budgeting, Social Inclusion and Right to City Africities session.
